Nowadays, the Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) routing protocol is very commonly used in IPv6 network infrastructure. OSPF uses a variety of Timers to reduce the number of Overhead messages. These Timer values ensure that OSPF takes only a few seconds to recover broken connections. Factors such as network convergence and CPU (Central Processing Unit) performance usage are greatly affected by changing the Timer value. The objective of the paper is to use the simulation tool with specific input values based on the proposal to give quantitative results on the influence of the Timer. The research results show that, with the Timer value set to high, the network convergence process will be slower and the CPU usage will be higher, while smaller timers will ensure faster network convergence and use less CPU resources.
