A study of Dem num sen (written 1961, in 2017) and Nhung nga tu va nhung cot den (written 1966, in 2011) from the paradigm perspective contributes to identifying the position of the two novels in the paradigm shift of Vietnamese novels. The article uses the methods of comparison and analysis to indicate the expressions of modern paradigm in the two works. In addition, the article uses the cultural approach to initially explain the paradigm shift of the two novels from historical and cultural context. From the paradigmatic perspective, it can be seen that both novels have changed the conception of reality and people as well as the concept of writing and writing style. It can be affirmed that Tran Dan "passed many crossroads to arrive half a century earlier" to be the earliest paradigm-changer and more clearly assert the intrinsic nature of the paradigm revolution in literature, even when it has to face with too many gruesome obstacles
