Discourse markers (DMs) appear with high frequency in English communication. In terms of influence, DMs play a very important role in language, especially in dialogues. Apart from the function of linking, DMs also conveymany different implications in the different context in which they are used. With the scope of this article, we present an overview of the discourse markers and analyze discourse markers such as and, but, now with the function of addition. Since then, the article compares these DMs in the work Gone with the Wind with translation equivalents in the conversations of the characters in Cuốn theo chiều gió. By analyzing the context in which the DMs are used, we want to find out the similarities and differences in translating these DMs in the conversation text between English and Vietnamese.
