The survey on hunted and traded bird species in Ninh Hai, Hai Thuong, Hai Hoa Communes and Tinh Gia Town (Tinh Gia District, Thanh Hoa Province) was implemented from October 2018 to April 2019. The results revealed that 37 bird species belonging to 18 families, 10 orders, were recorded. Among them, 27 species were used as ornamental birds, 11 species for food, and 2 species for spirit releasing activity. The ornamental bird species mainly belong to the Timaliidae, Turnidae and Accipigtridae families; those for food belong to the Ardeidae family. Remarkably, many traded species in the locality were recognized as precious, rare ones and have high preservation values: One species was listed in Vietnam Red Data Book (2007), one species in IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (2019), and 13 species in IIB Appendix of the Decree No. 06/2019/NĐ-CP of the Vietnam Government on the management endangered, precious and rare species of forest fauna and flora and the implementation of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
