Dong Van Commune is located in the buffer zone of Pu Hoat Nature Reserve, with over 6000 ha of bamboo forests accounting for about 25% of the area. Bamboos, especially the species Bambusa longissima, have brought the largest income from the forest for local people. However, many areas have been being degraded due to over-exploitation. On the basis of field survey and local people interviews methods, this study has identified 8 bamboo species, 4 commonly exploited species, their distribution and some ecological characteristics, some problems in exploitation and management in the study area. Our study also proposed measures to conserve and sustainably exploit bamboo species in Pu Hoat Nature Reserve.
