Teaching reading comprehension in approaching competency development is a crucial change in the General Education Program in Literature 2018. As one of the positive teaching methods and strategies, Literature Circle is a reading comprehension model that focuses on the reader's response, driven primarily by student understanding and questions. With surveying and analysing literature texts in the current textbook and the General Education Program in Literature 2018, the article addresses the process of organizing a literary circle in teaching reading comprehension of modern Vietnamese short stories for grade 11 students, to create excitement for students in the process of understanding the work, and to motivate them to deepen their thinking and share their feelings in order to meet the needs of the competence-based teaching and assesment program.
